Newly released audio from private 2024 campaign fundraisers—airing this week on CNN—reveals Donald Trump claimed he warned Vladimir Putin that if Russia invaded Ukraine, the U.S. would “bomb the s–t out of Moscow.” Trump described the threat as a deterrent tactic, adding that Putin believed him “about 10%.”
The recordings also show Trump saying he made a similar threat to Chinese President Xi Jinping, warning that Beijing could be bombed if China attacked Taiwan. Again, he insisted Xi took the message “10%” seriously, and claimed that this minimal uncertainty was enough to prevent aggression.
In the same audio, Trump bragged about his ability to fundraise effectively—citing a moment when he refused a $1 million lunch offer and instead secured a $25 million donation. He also addressed protests by foreign students in the U.S., suggesting they should be expelled—a comment that was greeted with applause from his audience.
The tapes are featured in the new book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America. The Trump campaign has declined to comment on the recordings.
