Family of 6-Year-Old Stabbed to Death “Sickened” by Early Release of Prime Suspect

The family of 6-year-old Logan Tipton, who was fatally stabbed during a home invasion, expressed shock and anguish after learning that Ronald Exantus, the man responsible for the attack, was released from prison early.

Exantus had been convicted in connection with the 2015 break-in, during which Logan was stabbed in his own bed. His parents and two sisters were also attacked. Despite being sentenced to 20 years, he was freed far earlier than expected — a move that has drawn widespread condemnation.

The Tipton family called the early release “sickening,” saying this decision reopens their wounds. They questioned the fairness of a system that allows someone who took a child’s life to walk free after a fraction of their sentence.

Local officials and former victims’ advocates have also criticized the parole board’s decision, demanding explanations and pushing for stricter oversight in violent crime cases.

While Exantus’s early release was facilitated by credits for education and good behavior, many feel that those credits don’t apply when the crime involved a child’s murder.

The family is considering legal options to challenge the release, and many supporters are calling for policy changes to ensure sentences for heinous crimes are served in full.
